Social Obligations

Category wise detail of concessional/ free travelling facilities provided by HRTC

At present, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation is providing concessional/free travel facilities to 28 categories, as listed below:

1 Students of H.P. Government Schools up to 10+2 class Free traveling facility between school and place of residence on production of identity card duly signed by Headmaster/ Principal of the concerned School clearly indicating the place of residence/ school of the student. This facility is not available on Sundays and other Gazetted holidays and will be provided only if the student is in school uniform in which the photo identity card has been issued in his/her favour by the School. Ordinary
2 Students of colleges/ institutions recognized by the State Govt. Concessional traveling facility for a month between college/ institution and the place of residence on payment of only 10 single fares. This facility is not available on Sundays and other Gazetted holidays. Ordinary
3 Students of Public/ Private Schools Concessional traveling facility for a month between school and the place of residence on payment of only 40 single fares. Ordinary
4 Employees of State/ Central Govt./ Corporation/ Board Concessional traveling facility for a month on payment of 30 single fares up to a radius of 50 km, excluding Sundays/ Gazetted holidays. Ordinary
5 Business Personnel Concessional traveling facility for a month on payment of 40 single fares up to a radius of 50 km. Ordinary
6 Police Personnel (Constable to Inspector) Allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State on production of identity card. A sum of Rs. 500/- per person per month is deposited by the Police Department with HRTC. Ordinary
Also allowed in Deluxe buses by paying the difference in fare; not allowed in AC/ Volvo buses even by paying the difference.
7 Jail Officials (Jail Warden to Assistant Superintendent Jail, Non-Gazetted) Allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State on production of identity card. A sum of Rs. 500/- per person per month is deposited by the concerned department with HRTC. Ordinary
Also allowed in Deluxe buses by paying the difference in fare; not allowed in AC/ Volvo buses even by paying the difference.
8 Hon’ble Ex-MLAs/ Ex-MPs along with one attendant Allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State. All type of buses
9 Freedom Fighter along with one attendant/ wife of Freedom Fighter along with one attendant Allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State. Ordinary
10 Press Correspondents — State Level, District Level & Sub-Division Level Allowed free traveling facility to the State & District Level correspondents within and outside the State and to Sub-Division Level correspondents within the State only. The facility is available only for 10,000 km per year. Ordinary
11 Gallantry Award winners of Armed Forces only Allowed free traveling facility within the State. Ordinary
12 War Widows of Armed Forces only Allowed free traveling facility within the State along with one attendant. Ordinary
13 Physically Challenged Persons Persons having more than 40% disability are allowed to travel free within the State, whereas visually impaired persons are allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State. Ordinary
14 Persons suffering from Cancer/ Multi Fracture Injuries/ Dialysis & Kidney Patients Free traveling facility along with one attendant on referral slip within and outside the State. Ordinary
15 Thalassemic Patient along with one attendant Allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State for treatment. Ordinary
16 National Awardee Teachers of H.P. Govt. Allowed six free passes in a calendar year for free traveling in HRTC buses within the State. Ordinary
17 Widows of HRTC Staff/ Retirees Allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State. Ordinary
18 Security Guards of H.P. Secretariat, Shimla-2 Allowed free traveling facility within and outside the State on payment of Rs. 500/- to HRTC. Ordinary
19 Women Allowed free traveling facility within the State on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Bhaiya Dooj. Ordinary
20 Muslim Women Allowed free traveling facility within the State on the occasion of Eid and Bakreed. Ordinary
21 Leprosy Patients Allowed free traveling facility within the State. Ordinary
22 Candidates called for interview by HPPSC & HPSSSB Allowed 30% concession in fare to the candidates called for interview by HPPSC & HPSSSB. Ordinary
23 Central University Students Concessional traveling facility for a month between college/ institution and the place of residence on payment of only 10 single fares. This facility is not available on Sundays and other Gazetted holidays. Ordinary
24 Kendriya Vidyalaya Students of H.P. Free traveling facility between school and place of residence on production of identity card duly signed by Headmaster/ Principal of the concerned School clearly indicating the place of residence/ school of the student. This facility is not available on Sundays and other Gazetted holidays and will be provided only if the student is in school uniform in which the photo identity card has been issued in his/her favour by the School. Ordinary
25 Concession to Women 50% discount on fare in ordinary buses within the State in intra-state buses. Ordinary
26 Children of State Awardees up to 21 years Free travelling facility up to 21 years of age. Ordinary
27 Handicapped with the disability of 70% or above One attendant allowed with the handicapped person having disability of 70% or above, within the State. Ordinary
28 CM Helpline 1100 employees Concessional travelling facility for a month on payment of 40 single fares up to a radius of 50 km, including Sundays/ Gazetted holidays. Ordinary
Note: The Government of Himachal Pradesh has mandated the preparation of RFID-based HIM BUS Cards to digitize and streamline concessional/ free travel facilities in HRTC buses for all eligible categories availing such benefits, except those categories specifically permitted to travel using one-time-use passes issued by HRTC, as mentioned at Sr. No. 14, 15, 22 and 28. Further, the categories mentioned at Sr. No. 19, 20 and 25 are eligible to avail the facility through HIM BUS Cards prepared by women beneficiaries.
